Protocol Education is a dedicated education recruitment agency working in partnership with schools to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant with an SEMH specialism who is passionate about building meaningful relationships and making a genuine difference to a child’s school experience.
The Role
This role is about more than classroom support. It is about connection, trust, and consistency. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Build strong, positive rapport with pupils who may have had challenging experiences in education
- Support children on a one-to-one or small group basis, helping them feel safe, understood, and valued
- Help pupils regulate emotions, manage behaviour, and re-engage with learning
- Act as a trusted adult, offering encouragement, stability, and positive role modelling
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement personalised support strategies
You will be someone who:
- Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or trauma-informed backgrounds
- Understands the importance of patience, empathy, and consistency in building trust
- Is resilient, calm, and confident when faced with challenging behaviour
- Believes every child deserves a positive and fulfilling school life
- Holds a relevant qualification or has equivalent hands-on experience
