About the Role

We are seeking a committed, compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team, supporting pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 at our specialist SEN school in Gateshead. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils with a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEN in classroom and small-group settings
  • Support learning across the KS3 and KS4 curriculum
  • Assist pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour support, and social development
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Support the implementation of EHCP targets
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Support personal care where required (training provided)

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable but not essential)
  • A patient, calm, and positive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people with additional needs
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable
