About the Role
We are seeking a committed, compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team, supporting pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 at our specialist SEN school in Gateshead. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils with a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with SEN in classroom and small-group settings
- Support learning across the KS3 and KS4 curriculum
- Assist pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour support, and social development
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Support the implementation of EHCP targets
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
- Support personal care where required (training provided)
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable but not essential)
- A patient, calm, and positive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people with additional needs
- The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable
