We're working closely with a supportive secondary school in the BS13 area of Bristol that's looking to appoint a full-time Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is for an immediate start (after your references and DBS have been cleared).
This is a role for someone who genuinely cares about young people and wants to work in a school where relationships, fairness and consistency matter. The school is keen to appoint someone full-time and, for the right person, there is strong potential for the role to become permanent.
This BS13 secondary school has a strong social justice-led ethos, with a clear focus on inclusion, equality and giving every student the chance to succeed, regardless of background or circumstance. The school serves a diverse local community and places real importance on listening to students, building trust, and helping young people feel safe, respected and understood. Staff work within clear routines and boundaries, underpinned by empathy and high expectations.
The most recent Ofsted inspection highlighted areas for development, and the school therefore has a vision to create an SEND / behaviour team of dedicated, resilient professionals. What's important is how they've responded. There is a clear improvement plan in place, a renewed focus on consistency and behaviour, and a leadership team committed to creating positive change. For support staff, this means being part of a school that is reflective, values teamwork, and welcomes adults who want to make a real difference.
This is a setting where your role as a Teaching Assistant truly matters and you are valued.
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll support pupils throughout the school day, working alongside class teachers to help students stay focused, engaged and confident in lessons. Support may be in class, in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis, including with pupils who have additional needs. This is a hands-on role where consistency, calm communication and positive relationships are key.
Why this role works so well:
- Full-time hours in one secondary school
- A values-led environment with clear routines and expectations
- Opportunity to build long-term relationships with students and staff
- Strong potential for a permanent contract
- Ongoing training and support from Protocol Education
Who the school is looking for:
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant in primary, secondary or SEND settings
- A warm, patient and reliable approach
- Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils
- Someone who understands the importance of boundaries, while listening and empathising
- A team player who wants to be part of the wider school community
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting pupils in lessons to help them access learning
- Reinforcing tasks set by the teacher, no planning required
- Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement
- Supporting small groups or individual pupils where needed
- Being a calm, consistent presence throughout the school day
