Protocol Education is working with a friendly and supportive Primary School in Keynsham, seeking a dedicated High Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This rewarding role will involve supporting children with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop confidence and achieve their individual goals within a nurturing school environment.

The school is looking for someone with strong knowledge and understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism (ASD), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, SEMH and other complex learning needs. You will play a key role in providing tailored support and building positive relationships that help pupils thrive both academically and socially.

We're particularly keen to hear from individuals who have experience working within SEND, education, care, youth work, psychology, mental health support or similar settings.

The Role

You'll be supporting pupils across the primary age range, working on a 1:1 basis and with small groups of children who require additional support to access learning and engage positively within the classroom. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting children with a range of high needs and SEND profiles
  • Implementing personalised learning and behaviour support strategies
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
  • Supporting communication, emotional regulation and social development
  • Promoting independence, confidence and positive engagement in learning
  • Creating a safe, consistent and nurturing environment for pupils
  • Recording progress and contributing to pupil reviews where required

A Bit About You

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, either professionally or personally
  • Strong understanding of a variety of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language Difficulties and learning disabilities
  • Calm, patient and resilient when supporting children with complex needs
  • Confident using behaviour regulation and de-escalation strategies
  • Able to build trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families
  • Passionate about inclusive education and helping every child reach their potential
  • Flexible, proactive and willing to adapt your approach to meet individual needs
  • Previous school-based experience is desirable but not essential

What We Need to Clear You

  • Passport/proof of right to work in the UK
  • Two proofs of address, such as a driving licence, utility bill, council tax bill, P45 or P60
  • CV covering the last 10 years of work or education, with any gaps explained
  • References covering the last two years, including childcare or SEND settings where applicable
  • Overseas Police Check if you have lived overseas for three months or more in the last five years
