Behaviour & Intervention Mentor (Driver Essential) – Complex SEMH School – Romford & Basildon | Immediate Start Are you resilient, compassionate, and passionate about supporting some of the most vulnerable young people in education? We are working with a specialist SEMH school operating across Romford and Basildon that is looking to appoint a dedicated Behaviour & Intervention Mentor to join their team immediately. This is not your typical classroom support role. The school supports pupils with highly complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, adverse childhood experiences, attachment difficulties, exclusion from mainstream education, and challenges with emotional regulation. Some students may also have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders, speech and language difficulties, and other underlying SEND requirements. The school takes a trauma-informed approach, recognising that behaviour is often a form of communication. Pupils can present with behaviours that challenge, including verbal aggression, refusal to engage, emotional dysregulation, absconding, and difficulties building trusting relationships with adults. The successful candidate must be able to remain calm under pressure, build strong professional relationships, and provide consistent support and boundaries. As a Behaviour & Intervention Mentor, you will work closely with students on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping them to develop emotional resilience, improve behaviour, re-engage with learning, and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom. No two days are the same, and the role requires patience, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to making a difference. Driver Essential Due to the nature of the role and the school's sites being based across Romford and Basildon, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle. Travel between sites may be required, and being a driver is an essential requirement for this position.
