Protocol Education is working closely with a high-performing academy in BS6 that regularly welcomes supply teachers through us. They’re looking for Maths teachers who want flexibility, whether that’s a couple of days a week or something closer to full-time. Many teachers start by doing day-to-day cover, getting to know the school and the team. From there, longer-term opportunities often come up either in the academy itself or in nearby schools we work with. When that happens, the roles are paid to scale.
For day-to-day work, the lessons are already planned, so your focus is simply on delivering the lesson and keeping the class moving forward.
What a typical day looks like:
- Delivering pre-planned Maths lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Teaching the lesson set by the department
- Supporting students with numeracy, problem-solving and reasoning
- Keeping the classroom calm, focused and productive
- Helping learners work through mathematical concepts and methods
- Collecting work and passing feedback back to the teacher
It’s a good fit for teachers who enjoy being in the classroom but want flexibility around workload and schedule.
Who this role suits:
- Maths ECTs looking to build experience across strong local schools
- Qualified Maths teachers who want flexible work
- Teachers returning to the classroom who want to ease back in
- Experienced teachers who prefer teaching without the full-time commitment
You’ll need:
- UK QTS (or working towards it)
- Strong knowledge of the secondary Maths curriculum
- Confident classroom management
- A calm, professional presence with students
Training and development:
When you work with Protocol Education, you’ll also have free access to our CPD academy. Teachers often use it to build skills that schools really value, including:
- Behaviour management strategies
- Team Teach de-escalation training
- The Thrive Approach, which helps teachers understand behaviour through a relational lens
Why teachers work with Protocol Education:
- £130–£150 per day for flexible cover
- Paid to scale for long‑term roles
- Weekly PAYE pay (no umbrella companies)
- Access to local schools matched to your preferences
- Free CPD and professional development
- £50 referral bonus if you recommend a colleague
