A specialist SEN school in Sunderland is seeking a nurturing and committed SEN Primary Teacher to join their dedicated team from September 2026. This is a full‑time opportunity within a highly supportive specialist setting, with interviews taking place before the summer holidays and the potential for a permanent contract following a successful placement. The school is part of a respected specialist trust and provides education for pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, ADHD, communication difficulties and associated learning needs. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, therapeutic and engaging learning environment where pupils feel safe, valued and able to succeed.

The Role:

  • Planning and delivering creative, differentiated lessons tailored to EHCP outcomes
  • Teaching pupils with varying levels of academic ability and additional needs
  • Creating a structured, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists and pastoral teams
  • Encouraging pupil independence, confidence and social development
  • Monitoring and tracking pupil progress effectively
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, parents and external professionals

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
  • Has experience working within SEN, SEMH or alternative provision settings
  • Understands Autism, sensory needs and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Is patient, resilient and adaptable
  • Has strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Is passionate about supporting vulnerable learners
