We're working with a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Sunderland that is preparing for the new academic year and looking to appoint a dedicated English Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis. This provision supports pupils who have experienced barriers to mainstream education and require a more personalised and nurturing approach to learning. The school is committed to helping young people rebuild confidence, develop resilience and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.

We're looking for a passionate and resilient English Teacher who can engage learners, build positive relationships and deliver high-quality lessons that inspire progress.

What you'll be doing:

  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Differentiating learning to meet a range of individual needs and abilities
  • Supporting pupils who may have experienced disrupted education
  • Building positive relationships and acting as a consistent role model
  • Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress
  • Working closely with pastoral teams, support staff and external professionals
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging engagement in learning

What we're looking for:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Experience within alternative provision, SEMH or SEND settings is desirable
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
