We're working with a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Sunderland that is preparing for the new academic year and looking to appoint a dedicated English Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis. This provision supports pupils who have experienced barriers to mainstream education and require a more personalised and nurturing approach to learning. The school is committed to helping young people rebuild confidence, develop resilience and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
We're looking for a passionate and resilient English Teacher who can engage learners, build positive relationships and deliver high-quality lessons that inspire progress.
What you'll be doing:
- Planning and delivering engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Differentiating learning to meet a range of individual needs and abilities
- Supporting pupils who may have experienced disrupted education
- Building positive relationships and acting as a consistent role model
- Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress
- Working closely with pastoral teams, support staff and external professionals
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging engagement in learning
What we're looking for:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Experience teaching English at secondary level
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
- A patient, resilient and adaptable approach
- Experience within alternative provision, SEMH or SEND settings is desirable
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
