We're working with a specialist provision in Sunderland that is seeking a full-time Deaf Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This setting is committed to providing high-quality support for pupils with hearing impairments, ensuring they can fully access learning and participate in all aspects of school life. We're looking for an empathetic and dedicated individual who can provide excellent communication support and build positive relationships with pupils.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils across the school day
  • Using British Sign Language to facilitate communication and learning
  • Supporting classroom activities and learning objectives
  • Encouraging independence and self-confidence
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals
  • Monitoring and reporting on pupil progress

What we’re looking for:

  • BSL Level 2 or above, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient and understanding approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
