Protocol Education are recruiting a Behaviour Support Assistant with a passion for sport to join a specialist setting in South Shields.
The school is looking for someone who can bring energy, confidence and consistency to the role whilst supporting pupils who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.
Your sporting interests could be the perfect way to break down barriers and build relationships.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Develop strong, trusting relationships.
- Use sport and physical activity as a tool for engagement.
- Mentor pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
- Encourage positive behaviour.
- Support emotional regulation.
- Help pupils manage conflict and frustration.
- Encourage pupils to participate in lessons.
- Support sporting activities and enrichment.
- Reinforce positive boundaries.
- Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff.

Experience in sports coaching, youth work, mentoring, care, residential work, education or behaviour support would be advantageous.
You don't need to be a qualified teacher — your personality and ability to connect with young people are what really matter.
