SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: South Shields
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start date: Immediate / September 2025

We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in South Tyneside. The school supports children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, SEMH, communication difficulties, and complex learning needs.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
  • Assist in delivering engaging lessons and activities that promote independence and confidence
  • Support pupils with personal care, mobility, and communication where required
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure consistent support strategies are in place
  • Help create a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive

About You

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based or alternative settings)
  • Calm, patient, and adaptable in your approach
  • Knowledge of autism, SEMH, or PMLD needs is desirable
  • Thrive training or willingness to undertake training is a bonus
  • Able to build positive relationships and promote independence at every opportunity

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
