SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: South Shields
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start date: Immediate / September 2025
We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in South Tyneside. The school supports children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, SEMH, communication difficulties, and complex learning needs.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
- Assist in delivering engaging lessons and activities that promote independence and confidence
- Support pupils with personal care, mobility, and communication where required
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure consistent support strategies are in place
- Help create a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive
About You
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based or alternative settings)
- Calm, patient, and adaptable in your approach
- Knowledge of autism, SEMH, or PMLD needs is desirable
- Thrive training or willingness to undertake training is a bonus
- Able to build positive relationships and promote independence at every opportunity
