Do you have a positive attitude, plenty of patience, and a genuine desire to help young people succeed? Our partner schools across Midsomer Norton, Peasedown St. John, and Radstock are looking for caring, confident individuals to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. No formal teaching qualifications are required—what matters most is your ability to build relationships, remain calm under pressure, and provide consistent support to young people who may face challenges in school.
This role is ideal for people from a variety of backgrounds, including youth work, care, coaching, customer service, support work, mentoring, community roles, or anyone with experience working with children and young people.
The Role
As an SEMH/SEN Educator, you'll support students throughout the school day, helping them stay engaged, regulated, and confident in their learning. You'll work alongside teaching staff to create a positive, structured environment where every student feels understood and supported.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students in the classroom and around the school
- Encouraging engagement with learning and classroom activities
- Building positive relationships based on trust, consistency, and respect
- Supporting students with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties
- Using calm and patient approaches to help manage challenging situations
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
- Following safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns appropriately
About You
