We’re working with welcoming specialist schools in the South Shields area seeking experienced and qualified Teaching Assistants to support pupils with SEND, including autism, SEMH, and communication needs.

The role

As a Qualified Teaching Assistant, you’ll play an important part in helping pupils access education in a way that works for them. You’ll provide tailored support, help regulate emotions, and build positive relationships that enable progress both academically and socially. Many of the schools we work with use supply placements as a way of recruiting permanent staff, making this a fantastic opportunity if you’re looking for a long‑term career move. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and wider pastoral teams to ensure every pupil feels supported and understood.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and engage positively in learning
  • Adapting activities to meet individual needs
  • Using de‑escalation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and resilience

What we’re looking for:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly pay through PAYE
  • Ongoing, long‑term opportunities
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
