Location: Hackney, East London

Hours: Full-time, term-time only

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities and sensory-based lessons.
  • Support pupils' communication using methods such as Makaton, PECS, AAC devices, objects of reference, and sensory approaches.
  • Assist with personal care, including feeding, toileting, moving and handling, and mobility support where required.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
  • Promote independence, communication, social interaction, and engagement in learning.
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly PMLD, SLD, or complex needs.
  • Patient, caring, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to provide personal care and physical support.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Desirable

  • Training in Manual Handling, Makaton, or PECS.
  • Experience working in a specialist SEN school.
  • Relevant TA qualification (Level 2 or 3).
