Protocol Education are currently recruiting trainee teaching assistants to work in Northumberland. The schools we work with offer prospective teaching assistants the opportunity to work with all ages such as early years, primary and secondary students and will provide training throughout the role. This particular school is looking for individuals who enjoy working with children of all ages, are comfortable working with special needs, and are passionate about making a positive impact on students' learning and development. No experience is required, but commitment, passion, and dedication are key attributes the school is looking for.

As a teaching assistant, you will be working in small class sizes of 6 - 8 students per class where you will follow a set curriculum developing speech & language, teach vocabulary and comprehension through visual resources, support students in core subjects such as numeracy and literacy, and assist in creative lessons such as art, music, cooking, and sensory play.

The role:

  • Supporting pupils with SEND on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Ensuring that the pupils can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class and make progress.
  • Developing knowledge of the particular needs of the pupils and seeking advice from the SENCo, class teacher, and outside agencies as required.
  • Providing positive reinforcements, praise, and rewards to pupils.
  • Understanding and applying the school's policies on learning and behaviour, and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special education needs.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have fantastic interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have an Enhanced DBS/ be willing to obtain one.
  • Be able to work Monday-Friday (term time) from the hours of 8:30am-4pm.
  • Have good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Have the ability to make a positive contribution to the school as a whole.
  • Be able to work as part of a team.
  • Be required to work closely with Class Teachers and staff, Parents, Special Needs Leader, and Outside Agencies.

As an individual, you will be outgoing and confident in your abilities to provide the best outcomes for your students. You must be adaptable, motivated, and committed to providing a caring and exciting learning environment where children are valued as individuals, challenged, and enabled to reach their full potential.
