We’re working with a welcoming KS2 primary school in the West End of Newcastle looking for a Psychology Graduate to join their team as a SEND Support Assistant. This is a brilliant role if you’re considering a future in educational psychology, CAMHS, mental health, SEN teaching, or pastoral support. You’ll be supporting pupils who need a bit of extra help to thrive in school, whether that’s with learning, behaviour, confidence, or emotional regulation.
The role: You’ll be working closely with children in Key Stage 2, supporting pupils with needs such as:
- Autism (ASC)
- ADHD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs)
- Anxiety and emotional regulation challenges
- Speech & language needs
- Behaviour and engagement barriers
Support may be 1:1 or in small groups, depending on the pupil and the school’s needs. Your day‑to‑day will include:
- Supporting pupils to access learning in the classroom
- Helping children manage emotions and behaviour in a positive, calm way
- Building trust, routines, and confidence
- Working with teachers and the SENCO to implement support strategies
- Encouraging independence, resilience, and social skills
- Being a consistent, reassuring presence in a busy KS2 environment
What we’re looking for:
- A degree in Psychology (or closely related subject)
- A genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs
- A calm, patient and resilient personality
- Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence
- Experience working with children is ideal (schools, youth work, mentoring, tutoring, care, volunteering), but not essential
