If you're a Psychology graduate thinking about a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Teaching or Speech and Language Therapy, this role offers valuable experience supporting children with additional needs in a primary school setting.

We're working with a friendly primary school in NE6 looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support two pupils in Year 1 on a 1:1 basis.

Both pupils have EHCPs and additional SEND needs, with one child being non-verbal.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is patient, observant and keen to understand how children learn and communicate in different ways.

The role

You\'ll be working closely with the class teacher and SEND team to support two pupils throughout the school day. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support in the classroom.
  • Supporting learning through tailored activities.
  • Taking pupils to the sensory room when they need time to regulate or reset.
  • Encouraging communication, engagement and independence.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.

Qualifications & attributes

  • Has a degree in Psychology or a related subject.
  • Has an interest in SEND and child development.
  • Is calm, reliable and able to build trust with children.
  • Can work well as part of a team.
  • Has experience working with children or young people, although this isn\'t essential.
