Protocol Education is recruiting ambitious graduates to work as Graduate Teaching Assistants in secondary schools across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. Whether you're planning a PGCE, School Direct, or a career in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, social work or youth work, this is one of the best ways to gain paid, hands‑on classroom experience while making a real difference to young people’s lives. Many of our Graduate Teaching Assistants go on to secure teacher training places and permanent school‑based roles after gaining invaluable classroom experience.
The Role
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers to support students both inside and outside the classroom. Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4
- Delivering one‑to‑one and small group interventions
- Supporting students with SEND, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Dyslexia and SEMH needs
- Helping students build confidence, resilience and independence
- Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement with learning
- Supporting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom activities
- Gaining valuable experience in classroom management and behaviour strategies
