A Primary School in Westerhope is seeking a dedicated SEND Support Assistant with strong autism experience to work in their SEND Classroom. This role is focused on working with a small group of KS1 children with autism and additional needs, providing 1:1 and small group support in a structured, nurturing environment. You will be working with a team who are known for their friendly, helpful and welcoming manner.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing consistent, calm, and patient support to Year 1 children with autism in the SEND classroom
- Supporting communication through visual aids, structured routines, and tailored strategies
- Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team to deliver EHCP targets
- Helping children regulate emotions, develop independence, and build confidence
- Creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment where every child feels valued
About you:
- Experience supporting children with autism (essential)
- Confident using strategies to support communication and behaviour regulation
- Patient, resilient, and able to remain calm in challenging situations
- Flexible and proactive, with a strong commitment to inclusion
- Available immediately and able to commit full-time
- You have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service
