Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive sports sessions tailored to the needs of students with SEND and SEMH requirements.
  • Modify activities to ensure that all students can participate fully, regardless of their physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges.
  • Encourage a positive, team-oriented environment that promotes self-confidence, emotional well-being, and resilience in students.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other support teams to align sports activities with students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering constructive feedback and celebrating achievements.
  • Use sport and physical activity to help students regulate emotions, develop social skills, and build self-esteem.
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, understanding their individual needs and providing emotional support through sport.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out safely and in line with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Relevant sports coaching qualifications or a degree in Physical Education or Sports Science.
  • Additional qualifications or training related to SEND or SEMH are highly desirable.

Experience

  • Prior experience of coaching or teaching children with SEND and/or SEMH needs is preferred.

Skills

  • Adapt coaching techniques to meet the diverse needs of students with physical, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and understanding approach.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
