Not every young person needs another sanction or to be completely understood. Sometimes, they just need one adult who doesn’t give up on them. The calm one. The steady presence. The person who can walk into chaos and help things feel safe again.

We’re looking for Behaviour & Inclusion Support staff to join a specialist setting in Harrogate, supporting pupils from KS1 to KS4 who’ve found mainstream education tough going. Some students have experienced trauma. Some have been excluded. Some are carrying more than most adults ever see. This role is all about relationships. Showing up consistently. Holding boundaries without confrontation. Helping young people trust school again, one day at a time.

What the role looks like

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Helping students regulate emotions and settle into routines
  • Using humour, patience, and structure to build trust
  • Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to create calm, safe spaces
  • Spotting when a student is struggling, before things escape
  • Celebrating the small wins that actually mean everything

Because behaviour isn’t “bad”. It’s communication. And the right support at the right time can completely change a young person’s path.

You’ll probably be a great fit if you…

  • Stay calm when things get loud
  • Don’t take behaviour personally
  • Can balance warmth with clear boundaries
  • Believe consistency matters more than perfection
  • Want a role where you genuinely make a difference
  • A good sense of humour helps too. Some days, tea and tactical biscuits go a long way.

What you’ll need

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one
  • Two recent references
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is a big bonus

Why Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella company faff
  • FREE CPD including Team Teach and Thrive training
  • A consultant who understands specialist settings and actually picks up the phone
  • Long-term opportunities where you become part of the school community, not just “cover”
  • Not Thrive trained yet? No problem. We’ll get you booked onto our FREE Thrive training to help build your confidence and toolkit even further.

This role won’t always be easy. But it will matter. You could be the reason a student starts believing they can succeed in school again.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
