The Role
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD
- Supporting non-verbal communication, including PECS, visual timetables, Makaton, or AAC (where applicable)
- Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage sensory needs
- Supporting learning, personal care (where required), and social development
- Working closely with SENCOs, teachers, and external professionals
Essential Skills & Qualities
- Experience supporting children with ASD and/or non-verbal communication (school, care, or personal experience)
- Calm, consistent, and empathetic approach
- Understanding of sensory processing and behaviour as communication
- Ability to follow individual education and support plans
Desirable (but not essential)
- SEN training or qualifications
- Experience with PECS, Makaton, or AAC
- Background in SEN schools, care, or therapeutic settings
