A welcoming SEN school in Gateshead is recruiting a Specialist Autism Teacher to support pupils with a range of additional needs from September. The provision caters for learners with Autism Spectrum Condition, speech and communication difficulties and social, emotional and mental health needs. The school places a strong emphasis on therapeutic practice, sensory regulation and individualised support.
Duties Will Include:
- Delivering creative and accessible lessons to small class groups
- Using Autism-friendly teaching strategies to maximise engagement
- Supporting pupils with communication, interaction and emotional development
- Maintaining structured routines that help pupils feel safe and successful
- Encouraging independence and preparation for future learning
- Collaborating with specialist staff including Speech and Language Therapists
Person Specification:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience within SEN, specialist or Autism-focused settings
