What your day might look like
- Teaching and supporting deaf and hearing‑impaired pupils across a range of subjects and year groups
- Adapting lessons and resources to ensure full access to learning
- Working with pupils who use British Sign Language (BSL), spoken language, hearing technology, or a combination of communication methods
- Collaborating with Teaching Assistants, Speech and Language Therapists, Audiologists, and families to support pupil progress
- Monitoring academic, social, and emotional development
- Helping pupils build confidence, independence, self‑advocacy skills, and a love of learning
What we're looking for
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Mandatory Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (Teacher of the Deaf Qualification/Mandatory Qualification - MQ)
- Experience teaching deaf or hearing‑impaired children and young people
- Knowledge of hearing technology, communication strategies, and inclusive classroom practices
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- A patient, flexible, and child‑centred approach
- BSL skills are highly desirable but not essential
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1, 2, 3 or higher
- Experience within specialist deaf provisions, resource bases, or specialist schools
- Experience supporting pupils with additional SEND needs
- Understanding of assistive listening devices, radio aids, cochlear implants, and hearing aids
- Experience working alongside multidisciplinary teams
