  • Building positive relationships that help children feel safe, understood, and ready to learn
  • Delivering one-to-one and small group interventions
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and pastoral teams
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and social skills

You'll gain experience across a variety of SEN and SEMH schools, giving you exposure to different settings, age groups, and specialist provisions. This could include:

  • Autism specialist schools
  • SEMH provisions
  • Alternative provisions
  • Specialist resource bases
  • SEND units within mainstream schools

We're looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Psychology degree (or is due to graduate soon)
  • Has a genuine interest in child development, mental health, or special educational needs
  • Is patient, resilient, and empathetic
  • Can build positive relationships with young people
  • Is keen to gain meaningful experience that will support future career goals

Extra experience we'd love to see:

  • Volunteering with children or young people
  • Youth work, mentoring, coaching, or tutoring
  • Mental health support experience
  • SEN or SEMH experience
  • Thrive training, or a willingness to complete Protocol Education's free Thrive training

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement
  • Opportunities across SEN, SEMH, mainstream, and alternative provisions
  • Valuable experience for aspiring Educational Psychologists, Teachers, Therapists, and Mental Health Practitioners
  • A role that makes a real difference

Some pupils need extra support to succeed. Sometimes that's a listening ear. Sometimes it's helping them navigate a tricky morning. Sometimes it's celebrating the small wins that become big breakthroughs.
