Protocol Education is partnering with a primary school in BS5 to recruit a caring, dependable and fully qualified Year 5 Teacher, ready to step in after half‑term. We’re looking for someone who understands how important the transition through Upper Key Stage 2 really is. Year 5 is a pivotal year, and you’ll be someone who can guide pupils with calm confidence, consistency and warmth.

You’ll recognise the balance between challenging children academically and providing reassurance as they develop independence and resilience. In your role, you’ll deliver engaging, well‑structured lessons across the Year 5 curriculum, building confidence in reading comprehension, writing skills, mathematics and problem‑solving. You’ll create a purposeful, positive classroom environment where curiosity is encouraged and resilience is developed. From whole‑class teaching to targeted support, you’ll help pupils navigate more complex concepts, prepare for SATs and embrace greater responsibility with confidence.

  • Fully qualified and confident teaching in Year 5
  • Calm, patient and nurturing, able to manage a larger, more independent class
  • Friendly, approachable, and skilled at building positive relationships with pupils and supporting peer interactions
  • Able to plan and deliver engaging lessons across the Year 5 curriculum, including literacy, maths, science and foundation subjects
  • Understanding of children’s individual needs, including SEND, and able to differentiate effectively
  • Committed to fostering independence, curiosity, resilience and preparation for transition to Year 6

  • Two proofs of address, such as a driving licence, utility bill, council tax bill or P45/P60
  • CV covering the last 10 years of work or education, with any gaps explained
  • Two years of references, including childcare where applicable
  • OSPC if you’ve lived overseas for three months or more in the last five years

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
