Protocol Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Bristol that is looking to appoint an experienced Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil in Year 5 with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis. The school is committed to creating an environment where every child feels safe, valued, and able to achieve their potential. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a child's school experience through consistent, personalised support.

The role will involve:

  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil and responding to their individual needs
  • Supporting the pupil to access learning and participate fully in classroom activities
  • Adapting and breaking down tasks to ensure they are accessible and achievable
  • Delivering and supporting strategies outlined in the pupil's EHCP and Safety Plan
  • Liaising with external agencies and implementing specific programmes of support
  • Maintaining accurate records of progress, achievements, and any concerns
  • Developing professional relationships with parents and carers
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider year group team
  • Supporting the pupil during lunchtime and afternoon learning sessions
  • Preparing learning resources and ensuring the learning environment is ready to meet the pupil's needs

About you

The school is seeking a confident, caring, and proactive individual with recent school-based experience. You will have:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly autism, in an educational setting
  • A calm and patient approach, with strong behaviour support strategies
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team while using your own initiative
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • A commitment to inclusive practice and helping every child achieve their potential

Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs is highly desirable.

Essential requirements:

  • Enhanced child-only DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
  • References covering the last 24 months
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Overseas police checks for any overseas stays longer than three months within the last five years
  • Relevant experience working with children or young people
