A welcoming primary school in North Bristol is looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a pupil currently in Year 3, moving into Year 4 in September. The child has complex behavioural and SEMH needs and spends much of the school day working outside of the classroom. Success in this role isn't measured by ticking off a timetable, it's built through patience, consistency, and the ability to stay calm when things don't go to plan. The school would love someone to begin in September, although there is an opportunity to start before the summer holidays to support a smooth transition and begin building that all-important relationship.

The role will involve:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Helping the pupil engage with learning both in and out of the classroom
  • Working closely with teaching staff, the SEND team, and external professionals
  • Creating a predictable, supportive environment where the child can thrive

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Understands that relationship-building comes before academic progress
  • Is resilient, patient, and able to adapt their approach when needed
  • Holds an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service
  • Can provide a full 24 months of references

This role would suit someone who knows that some of the most important work in education happens in quiet moments, a successful transition, a regulated afternoon, or a child choosing to come back into class when yesterday they couldn't. If you’re someone who brings calm, consistency, and a sense of humour on the tougher days, we’d love to hear from you.

What Protocol Education offers:

  • Weekly PAYE pay, with no umbrella companies
  • Free access to high-quality CPD and training
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities across mainstream, SEND, and alternative provisions
  • A simple, streamlined registration process
  • Referral rewards when you recommend friends and colleagues

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
