We’re working with a welcoming school in Billingham who are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to help create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment where every child feels supported and able to thrive. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils both one-to-one and in small groups. You’ll help students access learning, develop independence and engage positively with their education, working closely with teachers and other support staff to implement tailored learning strategies that meet each child’s individual needs. Your presence will help children feel safe, understood and encouraged to reach their potential.
Key responsibilities:- Provide individualised support to students with SEN and SEMH needs
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, adapting your approach to suit different learning styles
- Help children who communicate differently or need additional emotional or behavioural support to feel seen, heard and valued
- Support students during classroom activities to encourage engagement, focus and participation
- Assist with the implementation of personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and parents where appropriate
- Previous experience working with children or young people, experience within SEN settings is highly desirable but not essential
- A calm, patient and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Strong communication and listening skills
- A background in child or adult care, youth work, education or similar support roles is highly desirable
