1:1 Teaching Assistant within a Specialist School

I am working with a warm, welcoming specialist school in Ilford looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant who brings patience, creativity, and genuine care into the classroom every single day. What you’ll be doing:

• You’ll be providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs, helping them access learning in a way that works for them.
• Supporting personalised learning activities tailored to the pupil’s needs.
• Helping regulate emotions and build a sense of safety and trust.
• Encouraging communication through verbal and non-verbal methods.
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
• Creating a consistent, calm, and engaging environment where your pupil can thrive.

What we’re looking for:

• Experience supporting SEND or complex needs is ideal.
• A calm, nurturing approach and a good sense of humour.
• Someone who’s patient, observant, and genuinely invested.
• Confidence working as part of a wider team.
• A willingness to learn, adapt, and grow.
• Bonus points if you’re familiar with strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory support, but don’t worry if not, full support and training will be provided.

In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
