Creative & Therapeutic SEND Teaching Assistant

Are you creative, patient and passionate about helping children learn in ways that work for them?

Protocol Education is recruiting Teaching Assistants to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. We’re looking for people who can bring creativity, warmth and therapeutic understanding into the classroom.

You might have a background in art, music, drama, dance, storytelling or another creative field. Or perhaps you’ve supported therapeutic activities, explored sensory approaches, studied child development, or worked alongside professionals such as occupational therapists or speech and language therapists.

You don’t need to come from a care background. What matters is your ability to connect with children, encourage their participation and use your strengths to make learning engaging and accessible.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Support pupils’ learning and wellbeing as part of the school team.
  • Use creative activities to encourage engagement, communication and self-expression.
  • Help adapt activities to pupils’ individual interests and needs.
  • Follow guidance from teachers and relevant professionals.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships and celebrate each pupil’s progress.

We’d love to hear from you if you bring:

  • Creative skills or experience you can use to engage children.
  • An interest in therapeutic approaches, sensory activities or child development.
  • Patience, empathy and enthusiasm.
  • A flexible, positive approach and a willingness to learn.

This is a Teaching Assistant role, not a position delivering therapy independently. You’ll contribute your skills within the classroom and follow the guidance of the school team.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.

We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
