The Engineering & Facilities Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the site, maintaining equipment reliability, and continuously improving processes within a food manufacturing environment. The role ensures compliance with BRCGS standards, food safety requirements, Health & Safety regulations, and other legal obligations critical to maintaining high-quality product output and site efficiency.
You will focus on maintaining both Operational equipment and site infrastructure through a combination of planned maintenance, swift response to breakdowns, and the implementation of long-term reliability strategies. The position requires a hands-on, proactive approach to meet the unique challenges of operating in a regulated food production environment.
Key Accountabilities- Execute planned and reactive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted production while adhering to food safety and H&S requirements.
- Coordination and supervision of specialist contractors for key infrastructure equipment such as HVAC Systems, Lifts & MHE etc.
- Conduct and document maintenance activities in compliance with H&S Regulations, BRCGS standards, food safety protocols, and legal requirements.
- Provide technical support to machine operators, promoting operator-led maintenance and improving their understanding of safe and efficient equipment use.
- Support the development and execution of preventative maintenance schedules, integrating modern techniques like Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to enhance equipment reliability.
- Analyse data to identify trends in equipment failures and develop solutions to address root causes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing site reliability and reducing downtime.
- Manage spare parts inventory to ensure the availability of critical components while minimizing excess stock.
- Monitor and act on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to maintenance efficiency, downtime, and equipment performance.
- Actively participate in safety initiatives and promote a safety-first culture across all maintenance activities.
- Maintain the site infrastructure, ensuring all facilities are fit for purpose and meet operational requirements.
- Work closely with Technical, IT, Operations and Engineering teams to align maintenance activities with production goals while maintaining compliance with food safety standards.
- Ensure documentation and processes are audit ready for both internal and external audits, including those related to BRCGS certification.

Skills/Experience- Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance engineer with a strong technical foundation.
- Minimum qualifications: NVQ Level 3 or Equivalent and HNC in a relevant discipline.
- Proven experience (Min 3 Years) in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
- Competence in using and managing CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Strong understanding of modern maintenance techniques and methodologies.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance activities effectively.
- Awareness of Health & Safety standards and practices in manufacturing.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
- Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving in a high-pressure environment.
