Packaging is one of the most powerful brand assets a product company has. It is the moment a customer decides to buy, and it has to work harder than almost anything else in the marketing mix, whether that is on a digital shelf, inside a retailer, or landing on a doorstep. At Protein Works, we know this and we are looking for a Senior Packaging and Graphic Designer in Liverpool who is ready to own it.

You will work directly with our Brand Director to define what best‑in‑class looks like for Protein Works packaging. From new product launches to global market variations, from retail point‑of‑sale to ecommerce conversion assets, this role spans the full breadth of packaging and graphic design in a high‑growth nutrition brand with real momentum behind it.

If you are a detail‑first, commercially‑aware designer who understands that great packaging has to perform as well as it looks, and who thrives in a fast‑moving environment where output quality is non‑negotiable, this is the role for you.

About Protein Works

Protein Works is a high‑growth DTC nutrition brand with a clear mission: help people live healthier, happier lives through the power of nutrition. We are growing, investing and hiring with purpose. If you want to join a business with the energy of a challenger and the foundations of a market leader, this is the right moment to do it.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own the end‑to‑end packaging design process for new and existing products, from initial concept through to print‑ready artwork, ensuring excellence in layout, compliance, and brand execution.
  • Develop packaging for nutrition and wellness products across global markets, optimising designs for both retail shelf impact and ecommerce conversion, with full consideration of language, channel, and market‑specific requirements.
  • Work closely with NPD, Brand, Marketing, and Commercial teams to bring new product launches to life with on‑brand, detail‑perfect packaging that aligns with our commercial strategies.
  • Produce high‑quality graphic design assets for use across ecommerce platforms including our own website, Amazon, and retail partner sites, as well as performance media, social channels, and point‑of‑sale materials.
  • Translate creative briefs into high‑performing visual content, applying brand guidelines while pushing creative boundaries to differentiate Protein Works in a competitive category.
  • Design packaging solutions that balance strong retail shelf presence with exceptional ecommerce performance, ensuring products are visually distinctive in‑store and highly recognisable online.
  • Collaborate with commercial and retail partners to develop packaging and point‑of‑sale assets that maximise visibility, brand consistency, and shopper engagement.
  • Maintain and manage asset libraries and design systems to ensure consistency and accessibility across teams.
  • Act as a guardian of brand compliance, ensuring all assets meet brand, design, and nutritional labelling guidelines.

What Success Looks Like

  • Five or more years of packaging design experience, ideally gained in consumer goods, health, wellness, food, or beverage.
  • Expert‑level Adobe Creative Suite skills, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Proven ability to take designs from concept through to production with meticulous attention to print specifications, typography, and layout.
  • Strong working knowledge of packaging requirements including die‑lines, material constraints, compliance, retail merchandising considerations, and ecommerce packaging best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience designing for both direct‑to‑consumer ecommerce and retail environments, with a clear understanding of the commercial and creative differences between the two.
  • Experience developing supporting retail creative, including point‑of‑sale materials, promotional assets, and retail launch toolkits.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑growth business, whether a scale‑up, start‑up, or challenger brand.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional packaging design, shelf impact, and digital shelf performance.
  • Strong cross‑functional communication skills, with the ability to work confidently with teams from product through to commercial.

The right person for this role is detail‑obsessed and commercially sharp. They take creative ownership, meet every deadline, and never treat compliance as a blocker to great design. They are self‑motivated and proactive, but also genuinely collaborative, quick to iterate, and open to feedback from across the business. Within six to twelve months, this person will have raised the bar on how Protein Works shows up across every physical and digital touchpoint, with a suite of packaging and assets that set the standard for the category.

What You Will Get

  • Exclusive staff discounts.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Birthday day off.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Unique bonus scheme.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Access to retail discounts.
  • Staff socials and events.
  • State of the art PW Campus.
