Vice President, APD Controller at Protective. About the role Protective is seeking a senior financial leader to manage the controllership function for our Asset Protection Division. You will oversee financial integrity, reporting accuracy, and strategic governance for our insurance and protection product lines. Key facts Location: Birmingham, AL Engagement: Full Time What you'll do Direct the APD controllership function, taking full responsibility for accounting integrity and financial reporting outcomes. Manage the end-to-end financial close process for high-volume product lines and complex distribution models. Provide executive-level financial analysis to guide business decisions and performance management. Set accounting policy direction and evaluate the financial impact of new products, acquisitions, and distribution agreements. Maintain a rigorous control environment, including SOX compliance and oversight of premium recognition, reserves, and commissions. Partner with actuarial, legal, risk, and operations teams to align financial strategy with enterprise goals. Lead and develop a team of senior managers and directors, focusing on talent strategy and succession planning. Represent the division during interactions with internal audit, external auditors, and regulatory bodies. Requirements Bachelor degree in accounting or finance. CPA certification is required. Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting. Demonstrated expertise in U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting frameworks for property and casualty insurance. Experience within the insurance or asset protection sector, specifically regarding warranties, service contracts, credit insurance, or GAP. Proven ability to manage large, complex functions and influence executive-level stakeholders. Nice to have Public accounting experience at a Big 4 firm or equivalent. Skills
