About the role Protective is seeking a seasoned software engineer to join its Licensing, Contracting, and Compensation team within the IT department. This position will primarily focus on the modernization and upkeep of systems that handle agent contracts and compensation calculations. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and collaboration with business analysts and other internal stakeholders to ensure that the solutions developed are both effective and aligned with business needs.

What you'll do

  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications tailored to the needs of the Licensing, Contracting, and Compensation division.
  • Enhance and modernize existing systems that manage agent contracts to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with business analysts and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions that are both cost-effective and aligned with business objectives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues, ensuring that permanent solutions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support ongoing development and maintenance efforts.
  • Conduct code reviews for peers, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Balance multiple priorities and effectively manage project conflicts to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new features and enhancements into existing systems.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, demonstrating a strong technical foundation.
  • At least 3 years of experience specifically in.NET development, showcasing proficiency in this technology stack.
  • Expertise in C# and SQL database development, with a solid understanding of database management principles.
  • Strong skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, enabling the creation of dynamic and responsive user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Visual Studio, as well as frameworks including ASP.NET Web API, WCF, SOAP, and ASP.NET MVC 5 or later.
  • Experience with SQL Server 2019, ensuring robust database management and performance.
  • Proven ability to translate mockups and specifications into functional user interfaces.
  • Experience with unit testing to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • A post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Management Information Systems is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, contributing to a flexible and adaptive development process.
  • Experience with automated testing and UI testing frameworks like Selenium, enhancing testing efficiency.
  • Knowledge of modern JavaScript libraries such as Angular or React, which can improve user interface development.
  • Experience with CSS frameworks like Bootstrap, aiding in the creation of visually appealing and responsive designs.
  • Understanding of responsive design principles to ensure applications function well across various devices.
  • Experience with Distributed and Asynchronous Design and Development, which can enhance application performance and scalability.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes, streamlining the development workflow.

Skills & tools

  • Proficient in C#, SQL Server 2019,.NET, ASP.NET MVC 5+, Visual Studio, and Web Services (WCF, SOAP, Web API).
  • Strong skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for front-end development.
