About the Role:
Our client is a leading manufacturer within the food sector, currently seeking a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join their Engineering team. This role is essential in supporting both production and packing operations, ensuring equipment is maintained to the highest standard across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic disciplines.
As part of a fast-paced and technically driven environment, you’ll carry out both reactive and proactive maintenance tasks, contribute to continuous improvement projects, and ensure environmental and health & safety standards are met.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out fault diagnosis and reactive maintenance on a variety of production and packing machinery.
* Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in accordance with schedules.
* Operate and update the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing asset performance.
* Ensure all activities are compliant with health, safety, food safety, and environmental regulations (including ISO 14001).
* Complete shift reports and provide detailed handovers to ensure smooth operation across shifts.
* Assist in training apprentices and production staff on key equipment (e.g. via one-point lessons).
* Follow technical diagrams and documentation for mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
* Collaborate with production teams to support output and minimise downtime.
* Monitor equipment condition and raise work orders or escalate as required.
Requirements:
Essential:
* Time-served apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical engineering.
* Recognised qualifications such as City & Guilds, SVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* Proven engineering experience within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
* Competent in using CMMS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
* Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
* Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques.
* Ability to work autonomously and within a team.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly.
Desirable:
* Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
* Experience working with automated production and packaging systems.
* Familiarity with the Shire Piranha system (CMMS).
Additional Information:
* This role is part of a 24/7 rotating shift pattern, including nights and weekends.
* Candidates must be flexible to rotate between different manufacturing areas.
* Training will be provided where necessary, including food safety, HACCP, and relevant SOPs.
* The post-holder must ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with site food safety, quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.
