An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Manager to join a fast-paced food manufacturing business. Reporting to the Operations Director, this role carries strategic and tactical responsibility for delivering technical excellence, driving product quality, and ensuring all technical and compliance standards exceed customer expectations.
The Technical Manager will lead a dedicated team, oversee quality and food safety systems, and work closely with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to maintain and enhance the company’s reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the technical team to ensure all operational and technical activities are effectively delivered.
- Set clear objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Deliver training and coaching sessions to enhance technical capability.
- Collaborate closely with production and operational teams to ensure policies and procedures are fully implemented.
- Manage grievance and disciplinary processes in line with company policy.
- Liaise directly with customers and suppliers, resolving technical issues promptly and professionally.
- Technical & Quality Management
- Oversee all aspects of technical compliance, ensuring adherence to legislative, BRCGS, and customer standards.
- Monitor product standards, specifications, and quality control systems.
- Drive the implementation and maintenance of HACCP and food safety management systems.
- Lead site audits (internal, customer, and third-party), ensuring successful outcomes.
- Manage traceability, allergen control, and corrective action processes.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of site-wide technical strategies.
- Administration & Reporting
- Manage and monitor technical documentation and data systems.
- Analyse data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records for training, audits, and compliance purposes.
- Plan and manage staff schedules, holidays, and absence records.
- Proven experience in a senior technical or quality leadership role within food manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, and food safety standards.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a proactive approach.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and make decisions under pressure.
- Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the business.
- Experience working with major UK retailers or within a food manufacturing environment.
- Lead auditor qualification or equivalent.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
