Job Title: Technical Manager

Location: Commutable from Dundee / Arbroath / Stonehaven

Job Type: Full-time

Job Description:

My client is a well-known Food Manufacturer seeking a Technical Manager to take ownership of the company’s technical operations and ensure quality, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for overseeing the company's quality management framework, ensuring adherence to key industry standards, including those related to food safety and handling, such as BRC and HACCP.
  • Regularly evaluate existing policies and develop plans to enhance the quality management system, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Lead and manage the HACCP team, ensuring that decisions are thoroughly documented and that reviews are conducted in line with best practices.
  • Act as the company’s representative during technical audits, addressing any concerns and ensuring a strong, compliant standing with regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure that all staff within the technical and quality teams are adequately trained and capable of fulfilling their responsibilities to the highest standard.
  • Oversee the hygiene and quality management functions within the organisation, ensuring the implementation of effective processes across the business.
  • Investigate any incidents of non-conformance, take corrective actions as required, and track progress to resolution.
  • Collaborate with senior management, customers, and suppliers to ensure consistent communication and alignment on quality standards and technical matters.
  • Lead monthly meetings with technical and quality teams, fostering communication and team alignment.
  • Manage costs related to technical operations, including expenses for cleaning supplies, microbiological testing, and other key resources.
  • Track and analyse trends in customer complaints, microbiological results, and other performance metrics, providing regular reports to senior management.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Solid experience in a technical management role within the chilled food sector, with a focus on quality assurance, food safety, and process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, including BRC, HACCP, and relevant food safety standards.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, develop processes, and drive operational improvements.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a keen eye for identifying risks and implementing effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience representing the business in technical audits, customer and supplier meetings, and internal management discussions.
  • Experience managing costs associated with technical and quality functions, including budgets for cleaning materials, testing, and other resources.
  • A relevant degree (e.g., Food Science, Technology, or Engineering) or equivalent industry experience is preferred.
