Role Overview

We are recruiting a Business Development & Key Account Manager to drive new business growth and maximise revenue by developing new accounts, managing key customer relationships, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver profitable, sustainable sales. This role will focus on identifying new commercial opportunities, managing key accounts, and delivering annual turnover, volume, and profit targets within a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities through cold calling, email outreach, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Build and maintain a targeted prospect list across food manufacturing, retail, wholesale, and foodservice customers.
  • Prepare and present sales proposals and commercial submissions.
  • Attend industry exhibitions and networking events to generate leads and promote the brand.
  • Maximise sales revenue, margins, and profitability across all accounts.
  • Prepare annual sales budgets and report progress weekly to senior management.
  • Monitor customer profitability in collaboration with the Cost Accountant.
  • Drive achievement of agreed sales targets and KPIs.
  • Manage and grow existing customer accounts through regular review meetings.
  • Act as the primary point of contact, ensuring customer requirements are clearly understood and met.
  • Lead customer onboarding, including shelf life, production MOQs, logistics, and service expectations.
  • Upsell and cross-sell products within existing accounts.
  • Produce weekly sales reports and customer KPIs in agreed formats.
  • Maintain accurate sales activity records and forecasting.
  • Manage service level agreements, contracts, customer questionnaires, audits, and site visits.
  • Liaise with finance regarding debtor status and follow up where required.
  • Work closely with Technical teams to manage customer complaints, technical queries, and site visits.
  • Collaborate with NPD to introduce new products and concepts to customers.
  • Ensure all customer documentation complies with technical and recall/withdrawal procedures.
  • Support PR and marketing campaigns in conjunction with senior management.
  • Maintain awareness of competitors, market trends, and distribution opportunities, including chilled distributors.
  • Participate in weekly sales meetings and contribute ideas to improve processes and customer conversion.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as required to support company sales objectives.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Demonstrable experience working within a sales and marketing team in a high-pressure, results-driven setting.
  • Strong sales acumen with proven ability to develop new business, negotiate commercial agreements, and drive revenue growth.
  • Experience managing and growing key customer accounts.
  • Clear understanding of profitability, margins, and commercial decision-making.
  • In-depth understanding of the food manufacturing industry and market dynamics.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with technical, NPD, finance, and marketing teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of profit and loss.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and results-driven.
  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
