Prospero Teaching is recruiting for a reliable and dedicated School Caretaker to support the maintenance and day running of multiple school sites within a specialist education provision. This is a vital role focused on ensuring safe, compliant, and well-maintained environments for pupils, staff, and visitors. Working closely with the Site Manager, you will carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and health & safety checks across sites. There is clear progression potential for the right candidate, with scope to progress into a Site Manager role. The role requires travel between school sites, therefore a full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle are essential.

- Position: School Caretaker
- Type of work: Education / School Sites
- Contract type: Permanent
- Full time/part time: Full-Time (Term Time)
- Working hours: 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
- Pay: £22,455 - £23,548 per annum
- Flexibility: Working hours agreed at interview
- Additional: Availability for emergency call-outs required
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out routine and planned maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep
- Conduct health & safety compliance checks, inspections, testing, and record keeping
- Perform skilled maintenance tasks within the scope of the role
- Act as on-site support for external contractors, supervising works
- Support site security, including opening and locking up
- Monitor and manage maintenance stock levels
- Assist with setting up areas for school events and activities
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritise workloads effectively
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Practical experience in caretaking, maintenance, or a related field
- Physically able to carry out manual and practical tasks
- Good communication skills and basic IT competence
- Full UK driving licence, access to a suitable vehicle, and willingness to travel
- Ability to work independently, manage time, and prioritise effectively
Desirable:
- Background in a construction trade (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, general building)
- Experience working in schools or public sector buildings
- Awareness of safeguarding and working around young people (training can be provided)
