We are seeking an experienced and patient Tutor to support a Year 7 student with an EHCP who is currently unable to attend school due to significant anxiety associated with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile.

This role requires a tutor who can build trust gradually, adapt their approach to the student's individual needs, and provide a positive, low-pressure learning environment.

  • Location: DT4 Area
  • Rate: £25-£30 per hour
  • Hours: Initially 1 hour per day, Monday-Friday (5 hours per week)
  • Future Hours: Expected to increase to approximately 10 hours per week
  • Timings: Flexible
  • Setting: Home-based initially

The student presents with:

  • ASC with a PDA profile
  • Dyslexia
  • Significant anxiety associated with attending school
  • History of prolonged absence from education
  • May take time to build trust and engage with new adults

The successful tutor will be able to develop a strong, trusting relationship and support the student's gradual re-engagement with learning through a flexible, person-centred approach.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with students with SEN
  • Understanding of anxiety-based school avoidance
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with young people
  • Patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach
  • Experience in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or SEN support
  • Minimum 6 months experience working in an educational setting
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
