Job description

Prospero Teaching are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Tutor to support a highly motivated Year 11 learner in WA9 (St Helens) . This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact on a young person’s educational journey following significant time out of school.

About the Role

Subjects: English (5 hrs), Maths (5 hrs), Science (5 hrs)

Schedule: 3 hours per day, 5 days per week (flexible timings)

Location: Face-to-face tuition in WA9

Start Point: Functional Skills Entry Level across core subjects

Initial Requirement: Baseline assessments to determine ability level

As a Tutor, you will:

  • Deliver 1:1 tutoring sessions focused on bespoke, interest-led learning
  • Build a trusting relationship through consistency and empathy
  • Identify and target any gaps identified within learning
  • Encourage engagement through hands-on activities and creative approaches
  • Support development in core subjects
  • About the Learner

    Highly motivated and enthusiastic

    Loves creative writing (even wrote their own CV!)

    Likely to find English most engaging and Maths more challenging

    Interests include catering , music (especially rap) , and creative writing

    Has experienced significant time out of education, so learning will not follow a linear path

    About you :

    Adaptable to the learner’s interests and educational gaps

    Empathetic and understanding of the learner’s background

    Experienced in delivering functional skills and working with learners with non-traditional educational journeys

    Able to create engaging, personalised learning experiences

    Requirements

    Minimum 1 year of experience in UK schools or tutoring

    Experience with learners who have had disrupted education

    Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

    Ability to conduct baseline assessments and tailor learning accordingly

    Contract or position start date – ASAP
    Contract or position end date (if applicable) – N/A
    Full time/part-time – Part time- 15 hours per week
    Hours – Monday to Friday
    Essential & Desirable Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people

    Trauma-informed- desirable

  • To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:

  • Hold right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide references upon request
  • Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
