We are currently seeking an experienced, trauma-informed tutor to support a Year 12 learner with Functional Skills Maths and English, delivered through a mentoring-led, relationship-first approach. This role is ideal for a tutor who understands that emotional safety comes before academics and is confident adapting sessions responsively to support a young person with complex SEMH needs.

M has ASD and PTSD, and it is essential that the tutor is able to:

  • Recognise potential emotional triggers
  • Respond calmly and flexibly when dysregulation occurs
  • Adapt sessions in the moment

M is currently completing online Functional Skills Maths and English courses. Alongside the online courses, she requires additional support to help her engage and progress, including:

  • Essay writing and structuring written responses
  • Practising exam questions
  • Building confidence in applying knowledge

M is described as very bright, but disrupted education has created gaps in learning. A baseline assessment will need to be completed to identify these gaps, and the tutor will be expected to plan lessons outside of the online platforms to address them.

Alongside academic tuition, M would benefit from support with:

  • Life skills such as budgeting and planning for independence
  • Exploring post-education pathways and alternative routes beyond traditional education.

Tutor Requirements

  • Experience supporting young people with PTSD and ASD
  • Strong SEMH experience
  • Confident delivering Functional Skills Maths and English
  • Calm, flexible, and emotionally responsive
  • Comfortable with a mentoring-led approach
  • Able to adapt sessions dynamically based on emotional need

Sessions will initially start at 2 hours on one day per week, with plans to gradually increase to 5 hours once a positive relationship has been established. The rate for this referral is £25-£30 per hour.

This is a highly rewarding role for a tutor who values connection, trust, and emotional wellbeing as the foundation for progress. If this opportunity sounds like a good fit, or you’d like to discuss it further, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
