Role Overview:

The role focuses on working with students who may have struggled to stay in school or have been out of education for some time. As a Youth Mentor, your primary responsibility will be to guide and support these students back into school life, helping them regain confidence, motivation, and a sense of purpose in their education. Alongside this, you will also support them with Maths and English tuition to help them get back on track academically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor students to help them re-engage with education and transition back into school life.
  • Provide Maths and English support, tailored to each student's individual needs.
  • Foster a positive, supportive relationship with students to build trust and motivation.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to monitor progress and address any challenges.
  • Develop personalised action plans to support the students' academic and social development.
  • Help students with emotional and behavioural difficulties, providing a safe and encouraging environment for learning.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in a mentoring, youth work, or educational setting.
  • Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or those who have been disengaged from education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with students and staff.
  • A proactive and empathetic approach to working with students who may face challenges in their education.
  • Ideally, availability for at least 3 days a week.

Additional Information:

The role is part-time, with an average of 20 hours per week. The hourly rate is GBP30, and the work will take place during school hours (9 AM to 3 PM). This position is ideal for someone passionate about supporting students through personal and academic challenges and guiding them back into school life.
