Are you a compassionate and patient tutor, passionate about helping students who have stepped away from mainstream education? Prospero Teaching is looking for committed Maths and English Tutors to support students in Spennymoor who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. These young people face unique challenges and are not currently enrolled in full-time education.
You will work with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students on a one-to-one or small group basis, providing a safe, supportive, and motivating environment to help them reconnect with learning.
The Opportunity
This role involves supporting young learners who may have been out of school for a while and face emotional or social barriers to education. We need Tutors who are patient, adaptable, and passionate about helping students overcome obstacles and build confidence in their Maths and English skills. Sessions will take place face to face either in a community setting or at the young person’s home.
Your role with us:
- Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Maths and English
- Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps
- Monitor student progress
- Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students rebuild their confidence in learning
- Complete daily attendance and weekly reports
Role details:
- Pay rate up to £30 per hour depending on qualification and/or experience
- Up to 6 hours per week per student
- Start date: June 2026
- Location: Spennymoor
- Duration: ongoing

To be eligible for the Maths and English Tutor role, you need:
- Previous experience working with young people with SEND such as ADHD, SEMH and students who have been permanently excluded (this role is well-suited for those with experience within a PRU)
- Hold the right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
