Job description

About the Role:

As a Specialised SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to deliver targeted interventions and personalised support for pupils with a range of special educational needs. You’ll help children develop key skills in communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation, ensuring they have every opportunity to succeed and feel valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional and complex needs.

  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies.

  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and sensory needs in a calm, structured setting.

  • Use specialist approaches (such as PECS, visual supports, or sensory integration techniques) where appropriate.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to deliver consistent, high-quality support.

  • Follow safeguarding and behaviour policies to ensure pupil well-being and safety at all times.

  • Requirements:

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

  • Experience working with children with additional or complex needs in a school or SEN setting.

  • Knowledge of strategies to support pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication difficulties.

  • Excellent communication, patience, and resilience.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
