Prospero Teaching is recruiting for a Construction Teacher to join an expanding alternative provision, working with post-16 students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. This is a teaching role focused on delivering a practical, hands-on construction curriculum to small groups of post-16 learners who may have experienced disruption to their education. The provision offers a structured, supportive environment where consistency, relationships, and clear routes into employment are central.

Students are supported to re-engage with learning, develop practical trade skills, and work towards City & Guilds qualifications (Entry Level 3-Level 2). Teaching takes place in groups of up to six learners, with a strong focus on vocational learning, confidence-building, and employability skills. You will deliver engaging sessions across a range of trades including bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, painting & decorating, and general maintenance.

A calm, flexible, and resilient approach is essential, alongside effective behaviour management using trauma-informed strategies. The role also involves supporting students' pastoral needs, working closely with support staff, contributing to EHCP targets, and maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop environment with high standards of health and safety.

  • Pay: From £150 per day
  • Working hours: 08.00am-16.30pm

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND/SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management and deskills
  • Practical experience in construction trades
  • Ability to deliver engaging small-group sessions
  • Confidence leading sessions alongside and directing support staff

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent)
  • Experience delivering City & Guilds or vocational qualifications
  • Assessing / IQA qualifications
  • Understanding of trauma practice

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced Child Barred List DBS registered with the update service, or be willing to apply
  • Provide two professional, child-related references
