Prospero Teaching is looking for a dedicated and experienced Maths & English Tutor to provide 1:1 support to students in Sidcup. The students are currently out of mainstream education, including those awaiting school placements, receiving alternative provision, or accessing EOTAS packages. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who may have experienced disruption to their education and require tailored academic support to help them re-engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and personalised Maths and English tuition tailored to the student's age, ability, and learning needs.
  • Support students who are currently out of school and may have gaps in their education.
  • Identify learning needs and create structured lesson plans to accelerate progress.
  • Develop confidence and competence in core Maths and English skills.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to suit individual learning styles and needs.
  • Foster positive attitudes towards learning and encourage student engagement.
  • Monitor, record, and report on student progress and outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents/carers, schools, and local authorities where required.

Requirements:

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths and English.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum.
  • Experience working with children and young people who may be disengaged from education.
  • Ability to build rapport and motivate learners with a range of needs and abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience delivering EOTAS, alternative provision, or home tuition.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, or behavioural challenges.
  • Experience preparing students for SATs, GCSEs, or Functional Skills qualifications.
  • Degree in Mathematics, English, Education, or a related subject.
  • Previous experience delivering 1:1 tuition in community or home settings.
