We are currently looking for a dedicated tutor to support a Year 10 student working towards achieving GCSEs in core subjects (English, Maths, and Science). Tuition will take place fully outside of a school setting, with sessions held in a public space agreed between yourself, the young person, and involved professionals. The setting will remain flexible to suit the student's needs.
The young person does not have SEN, however presents with a significant history of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, which are currently the primary barrier to accessing education. She is academically capable at GCSE level and currently on a Functional Skills pathway, though this will be reviewed following a baseline assessment and remains flexible. She is beginning to focus on her future and understands the importance of achieving five GCSEs, including English, Maths, and Science, to access her chosen college course.
We welcome tutors who specialise in one or two core subjects, as the Local Authority is open to multiple tutors supporting her provision.
Key Requirements:- Minimum 6 months UK-based experience in education
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs
- Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies
- Ability to be flexible and adaptive, adjusting session content, pace, and expectations based on the young person's emotional state
- A nurturing, patient approach with a focus on building trust, confidence, and engagement
- £25-£30 per hour
- 15 hours per week funded by the Local Authority
- Likely to begin with reduced hours, increasing as rapport and engagement develop
This role places a strong emphasis on relationship-building first, with academic learning introduced as the young person shows readiness. The key aim is to support her in developing confidence, resilience, and self-belief, alongside achieving the qualifications needed for her next steps.
We work closely with Local Authorities to provide alternative provision for young people unable to access mainstream education. By registering with Prospero Teaching, you may also have the opportunity to support additional students and build a fuller timetable if desired.
If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference and supporting young people to re-engage with education, we would love to hear from you.
