Prospero Teaching is recruiting for a reliable and dedicated School Caretaker to support the maintenance and day running of multiple school sites within a specialist education provision. This is a vital role focused on ensuring safe, compliant, and well-maintained environments for pupils, staff, and visitors. Working closely with the Site Manager, you will carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and health & safety checks across sites. The role requires travel between school sites, therefore a full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle are essential.

CONTRACT DETAILS:

  • Position: School Caretaker
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Full time/part time: Full-Time (Term Time)
  • Availability for emergency call-outs required

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out routine and planned maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep
  • Conduct health & safety compliance checks, inspections, testing, and record keeping
  • Perform skilled maintenance tasks within the scope of the role
  • Act as on-site support for external contractors, supervising works
  • Monitor and manage maintenance stock levels
  • Assist with setting up areas for school events and activities
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritise workloads effectively

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Practical experience in caretaking, maintenance, or a related field
  • Physically able to carry out manual and practical tasks
  • Full UK driving licence, access to a suitable vehicle, and willingness to travel
  • Background in a construction trade (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, general building)
  • Experience working in schools or public sector buildings
  • Aware of safeguarding and working around young people (training can be provided)

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

  • Hold an enhanced DBS or be willing to apply for one
